The Holmes Agency has been serving Downeast Maine before Ellsworth was incorporated.  First opening as The John E. & Herbert Fiske Agency, it changed hands several times until 1884.  That is when a young woman Of 16 went to work for owner, George H. Grant.  After 24 years, Mr. Grant sold the business to Minne E. Holmes.

Since Miss Holmes purchased the agency, ownership Has remained in the Holmes family.  Minnie passed The Holmes Agency to her nephew, Thomas Holmes who retired in 1987.  His son, Blaine Holmes has been running the agency since his father’s retirement.

Along with his wife, Donna and his highly trained staff, the agency strives to provide the products clients need along with the service they’ve come to expect.  “You can buy insurance anywhere.  Service and a personal relationship is what keeps our clients coming back.”
